Information On Criminal Record Search

By: Denny Keller

The process of criminal record search is indeed difficult. If you want to do a background search on any potential customer or business partner, you will have to access all the records in different countries. This means that you will have to go through privacy laws and make an effort to enter through the bureaucratic stone walls. However the process in United States is easier compared to all the other countries. If they are titled as public information, everyone can view it. You will not have to bother about ‘permissible purpose’ to get hold of the information.

You can also the Internet which stores wealth of information to know about the past records of a person. You will need the name of the person. If you know the date of birth, then the whole search process will be easier. In order to get hold of criminal records, you will have to visit the county or the state websites. These are the places where you will get the relevant information. Apart from the free resources available in the Internet, you can also use the fee-based service which allows an agency to get the information for you.

However even if you pay the fee, there is no guarantee that you will get all the information and you can face some complications as most of the records are stored in government offices and there are strict privacy policies regarding the accessibility and availability of the information. Even in United States, you cannot vouch for the accuracy of information and there is no certainty that the information you have received is by all means correct and updated. All the criminal records are available from one source which is known as the National Crime Information Center. This source is maintained by FBI.

After you have checked the background sources on a state basis or regional basis, you can check the countywide information available in the source. You have to run the checks through the records available in the county. All the information are publicly available, but you might not be able to get access to all the information, if you have the name along with date of birth, there are chances that the information available are somehow authentic. If you want to check whether any individual has a rap sheet or not, you will have to get access to the county-of-residence. You will have to check the records for at least seven years, before you get hold of the correct information.

Even when you run the checks on any person, it becomes increasingly difficult to get the right and the correct information. There is a false sense of security attached to it. And there is no one who will actually authenticate the information. So there is hardly any chance to know whether the information you have received is correct or not.
